IF Chair
Design by Welling/Ludvik for International Furniture
IF Chair was developed for environments where furniture is expected to perform every day, often under demanding conditions.
The project brought together a wide range of requirements relating to comfort, durability, flexibility, production and cost. The challenge was to meet these demands without allowing complexity to define the final result.
The ambition was simple: to create a chair that works.
Design Approach
Some projects begin with an idea. Others begin with a responsibility. IF Chair belongs to the latter.
Educational and workplace environments place extraordinary demands on furniture. Products must withstand intensive use, support different ways of sitting and remain functional for many years.
Throughout the development process, every detail was evaluated in relation to comfort, durability, manufacturing and long-term performance.
The work became an exercise in refinement — reducing complexity while preserving quality.
The goal was never to add more, but to achieve more with less.
Material & Construction
Behind its simple appearance lies a considerable amount of technical development.
Materials, dimensions, components and assembly methods were continuously refined to achieve the right balance between performance, durability and production efficiency.
The chair is designed to support movement and different sitting positions while maintaining the robustness required in demanding environments.
Many of the decisions that define the quality of the product are not immediately visible. They are embedded within the construction, the detailing and the way the chair performs over time.
The result is a chair shaped by careful optimisation and respect for the many factors that influence everyday use.
