Timbur
Designed for Carl Hansen & Søn
Timbur began with a simple ambition: to create a bench using as little as possible while still offering comfort and character.
Named after the Icelandic word for timber, the project explores the qualities of solid wood and the relationship between material, construction and use.
Every element has a clear purpose. The expression is shaped by the material itself and by the way the bench is put together.
Design Approach
The idea for Timbur emerged during a period when shared spaces and social interaction gained new significance.
I wanted to create a place to pause, gather and spend time together.
The design is based on a straightforward construction where material, proportions and details work together to create comfort and durability. Rather than adding features, the process focused on refining what was already there.
For me, simplicity is not about doing less. It is about understanding what matters most.
Material & Construction
Crafted from untreated FSC-certified teak, Timbur is designed to age naturally and develop character over time.
The construction remains visible and honest. Joints, proportions and material qualities are allowed to define the expression rather than being concealed.
Curved surfaces, rounded edges and generous armrests contribute to comfort while maintaining a calm appearance. The armrests also function as practical side surfaces, adding usefulness without adding complexity.
The result is a bench where material, construction and use are closely connected.
