Brú
Design by Welling/Ludvik for Bernstorffsminde
Brú began with an interest in bringing together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary production.
At first glance, it is a simple wooden table. But behind its calm appearance lies a careful balance between construction, material and efficiency.
Named after the Icelandic word for bridge, Brú reflects a connection between different ways of making — between craft and industry, tradition and innovation.
Design Approach
The dining table is one of the most familiar objects in everyday life.
It serves many purposes and often becomes a natural gathering point in the home. With Brú, the ambition was to create a table with a strong sense of permanence while responding to the realities of modern production and distribution.
The project was developed around a straightforward question: how can a table be produced efficiently without losing the qualities that give it warmth, character and longevity?
Rather than treating craftsmanship and industrial production as opposites, Brú explores how the two can support one another.
The result is a table that feels familiar and honest, while quietly incorporating solutions that make it suitable for contemporary manufacturing and transport.
Material & Construction
Wood is at the centre of the design.
The material is allowed to define the character of the table through its grain, warmth and tactile qualities. Proportions and details have been carefully refined to create a calm and balanced expression.
The construction combines traditional woodworking principles with a discreet technical solution that allows the table to be flat-packed while maintaining a high level of stability and durability.
Much of the work behind Brú focused on achieving this balance. The ambition was not to showcase the construction, but to make it feel natural and effortless.
The result is a table where craftsmanship, production and use are closely connected.
